The First One

Let's walk you through some practical information of what this project is about and how to get featured.

What Is Squawk Foundation?

Every aviation professional has a story.

Some stories begin with a childhood dream of becoming a pilot. Others lead to a complex interconnected environment, be it a mechanic's workshop, an airport operations office, a military base, or even a completely different field. What connects them is the absolute fascination to aerodynamics and the resilience to continue in an industry that is more demanding than others.

Squawk Foundation exists to collect and share those stories.

We speak with people from across the aviation world: pilots, flight instructors, cabin crew, air traffic controllers, dispatchers, managers, aircraft mechanics, and many others who have built their careers around flying. Some are at the beginning of their journey, some have decades of experience behind them, and many are somewhere in between.

Our goal isn't to celebrate job titles or give career hits. It's to understand the people behind them.

Is This About Airlines?

Not really. Or at least not exclusively.

When people hear the word "aviation," they often think of airlines first. But aviation is much bigger than in-line flying. It includes private pilots, instructors, maintenance specialists, airport professionals, business aviation crews, and countless others whose work keeps the industry moving.

We are interested in the full picture.

One thing we've learned is that aviation careers rarely follow a straight line. Someone may start as a flight instructor, move into charter operations, spend years at an airline, and eventually end up running a business or training the next generation. Another person may leave aviation entirely and later find their way back.

And very often real stories help us navigate our own career twists and crises.

How Do You Decide Whom to Interview?

We look outside.

We pay attention to conversations happening across the aviation community, whether that's through networking, social media, online groups, or personal recommendations. Whenever we come across someone with an interesting experience or perspective, we may reach out and ask if they'd like to share it.

At the same time, we don't believe great stories should only be discovered by chance.

If you have experiences, lessons, or knowledge that could help others, you're welcome to contact us directly.

People sometimes ask what they gain from sharing their story. The honest answer is simple. The value comes from contributing to a community that helped many of us get where we are today.

Most aviation professionals can remember a moment when advice, encouragement, or simply hearing someone else's experience helped them navigate a challenge that felt overwhelming at the time. Sharing your own journey gives you the chance to do the same for someone else.

What If I'm Not in the Right Moment of My Career?

We hear you, though we're convinced there's never the right moment.

A student pilot may look at someone who has just completed their first solo flight and think they're incredibly advanced. Every stage of a career has value because every stage teaches something.

But we're here to stay and listen to you when time feels right.

Can I Share My Story Anonymously?

Absolutely.

Authenticity matters much more to us than names or titles. We understand that people work under confidentiality agreements, have privacy concerns, or simply prefer not to attach their identity to certain experiences.

If you'd rather share your story under a nickname, an alias, a callsign, or anonymously, we'll go along with that.

Do You Use AI-Generated Content?

No.

While AI tools have helped us build parts of the website itself, the stories you read on Squawk Foundation come from real people.

We don't use generative AI to write interviews, create personal stories, or generate images that represent contributors. Everything published is based on genuine experiences shared by actual individuals.

This commitment to authenticity is also why some stories may not include photographs. When contributors choose to remain anonymous or cannot share images publicly, we leave images with text boxes. You're encouraged to use your imagination to fill the spaces.

Do You Only Publish Stories?

Stories are at the heart of what we do, but they're not the whole picture.

We also publish articles about career development, professional transitions, challenges within the industry, support, and tools that help people make better decisions about their future in aviation.

Our aim is to create resources that are genuinely useful, whether you're trying to navigate your first steps into the industry or considering a major career change after years of experience.

If a topic can help someone build a healthier, smarter, or more sustainable aviation career, we're interested in exploring it.

Who Is This For?

Anyone who finds aviation fascinating.

For some readers, that means seasoned professionals with thousands of hours in the air. For others, it means student pilots, aspiring cabin crew members, future mechanics, or people who are simply curious about what life in aviation really looks like. We don't have an entrance policy. Sharing your story means reaching out to a broad community of people who care.
